Job Summary:

The Accountant I position at the Florida Department of Education Office of Student Financial Assistance involves managing financial transactions related to state and federal student financial aid and loan programs. The role requires performing reconciliations, conducting compliance reviews, and maintaining procedural documentation within a professional business office environment.

Responsibilities:

• Vouch deposits and disbursements for state, federal, and student financial aid/loan programs.
• Perform weekly and monthly fund reconciliations.
• Prepare and update OSFA's procedures and training manuals.
• Conduct compliance reviews of nonpublic post-secondary institutions.
• Work independently with minimal supervision.
• Utilize Microsoft Office applications such as Excel, Word, and Access for reporting and documentation.

Required Skills & Certifications:

• Bachelor of Science in Accounting or Community College Accounting Certificate.
• Minimum 3 years of experience working for the State of Florida with familiarity in FLAIR or FLPALM systems.
• Basic accounting experience including state accounting, auditing, invoicing, and fund reconciliation.
• Professional business office experience of at least 2 years.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Access, etc.).
• Experience conducting compliance reviews of nonpublic post-secondary institutions.
• Strong job tenure and ability to speak and understand English fluently.

Preferred Skills & Certifications:

• Additional training or certifications related to accounting or financial assistance programs.
• Advanced skills in Microsoft Office suite.

Special Considerations:

• Work is performed in a professional business office environment.
• Business casual dress code required.
• Candidate must be able to complete mandatory pre-employment screenings and comply with any applicable safety or dress requirements.
• Position is contract/temporary with no benefits including PTO or paid holidays.

Scheduling:

• Standard business hours in an office setting.
• In-person interview and work location at Turlington Building, Tallahassee, FL.
• Start date: August 24, 2026; End date: June 30, 2027.
