We support CBMSkills.com, an educational technology platform that helps K–5 teachers assess and build students math, reading, and writing skills. The project is affiliated with the University of Oregon, and we contract through CEAA, a Eugene, Oregon-based nonprofit affiliated with the university. We are a small team seeking an experienced developer to own a substantial share of our engineering work and make sound technical decisions independently. Our well-maintained codebase dates to 2020 and includes CI/CD, staging, about 1,100 automated tests, Sentry monitoring, and written runbooks. The stack includes Laravel 12, PHP 8.4, MariaDB, Redis, Vue 3, Inertia, Tailwind, Laravel Nova, and AWS services. This is a remote U.S. independent-contractor engagement at $70 per hour, beginning with a paid two-week trial at 20 hours per week. If both sides continue, 30 hours per week are guaranteed, with up to 40 by mutual agreement. The initial term is six months, with a month-three goals review and a real possibility of extension. You set your schedule, with some regular overlap during Pacific business hours and about one weekly Zoom meeting. All project time is billable. We encourage AI coding tools, but you must review and take responsibility for your work, and student data must not be entered into those tools. The trial uses seeded data, and the contractor signs a confidentiality agreement. The start date is flexible.
