Senior Network Security Engineer

Remote

3-4 Month Contract to Hire

Pay rate: $70 - $75/hr on W2

Position Overview:

The Sr. Network Security Engineer is a Subject Matter Expert (SME) in service provider network security. This role is critical in addressing the ongoing challenges in building a dedicated service provider network security function at the company. The engineer will lead the technical advancement and refinement of network security architecture, designs, implementations, and operational practices. The role requires performing network discovery, identifying vulnerabilities, reviewing configuration management, and building a security roadmap for the service provider network.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Design, configure, and maintain network devices like routers, switches, and firewalls to prevent intrusion into the service provider network.
    • Nokia, Adtran, Juniper, Calix, Cisco and/or A10 Networks
  • Design, configure, and maintain network monitoring and analysis tools like NMS, IDS, IPS, and SIEM servers and appliances to isolate and diagnose potential threats and intrusion attempts.
  • Architect comprehensive security procedures and lead the assembly and operationalization of incident response and disaster recovery plans.
  • Coordinate cross-functional organizational incident response teams to ensure response, prioritization of events, and respective remediations.
  • Act as the first line of defense in preventing and responding to security incidents, malicious behavior, and attacks.
  • Monitor, test, and report on the network's hardware and software to ensure integrity of the service provider network's design, configuration, and security compliance posture.
  • Review and ensure vulnerability and patch management is prioritized and remediated in a timely manner.
  • Identify, propose, and implement measures to improve the security posture of our service provider network.
  • Produce and peer review MOPS for complex changes on the network.
  • Drive world-class availability and security in a constantly growing and scaling national network.
  • Contribute toward departmental and company goals and objectives.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Job Qualifications and Requirements:

  • 7+ years working in a Network Security Engineering and/or Operations role in the telecommunications service provider industry.
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in cybersecurity, electronics, telecom, or computer science.
  • Ability to clearly identify requirements, communicate the path forward, and guide less experienced engineers.
  • Hands-on configuration of network, security, and monitoring devices.
