Founded in 1999 by a group of dedicated volunteers, Meridian Public Charter School is one of Washington, DC’s oldest continuously operating public charter schools. ABOUT THE POSITION

We are seeking a Middle School Spanish Teacher to join our Middle School Campus for the 2026–27 school year. Teachers at Meridian are responsible for the following:

• Collaborating with colleagues in developing cohesive, standards-aligned Spanish curriculum materials, increasing instructional resources, and establishing instructional goals
• Preparing engaging, standards-based Spanish language lessons that develop students' proficiency in speaking, listening, reading, and writing
• Utilizing strong content knowledge to effectively deliver rigorous, engaging instruction that promotes language acquisition and cultural competency
• Differentiating instruction to accommodate multiple learning styles, language proficiency levels, and student abilities
• Assessing students' academic and language development through observation and a variety of formative and summative assessment methods
• Tracking and monitoring assessment results in order to regularly refine instructional practices and design differentiated lesson plans
• Creating opportunities for students to develop confidence and fluency through authentic communication, collaboration, and cultural exploration
• Applying the values of urgency, rigor, and consistency to create a positive learning environment that promotes high expectations
• Communicating with students, parents, and school staff to ensure that students are making progress toward language proficiency and academic goals
• Establishing and implementing effective classroom management procedures and maintaining a productive, safe, and focused learning environment
• Participating in school-wide initiatives, professional development, and collaborative planning with colleagues
• Other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS

Ideal candidates will have the following education and experience:

• Bachelor's degree required. Concentration or advanced degree in Spanish, World Languages, Education, or a related field preferred.
• Two or more years of teaching experience as a K–12 Spanish or World Language teacher in an urban environment with a strong record of student achievement preferred.
• Demonstrated proficiency in spoken and written Spanish.
• Experience designing engaging, communicative language instruction that promotes student proficiency.
• Knowledge of ACTFL World-Readiness Standards and proficiency-based language instruction preferred.
• Experience integrating technology and authentic cultural resources into language instruction preferred.

A recent TNTP Insight Survey of our teachers placed our staff’s satisfaction with compensation in the top quartile of all charter schools in DC. We also lead the charter sector in compensation transparency, and publish our salary scales for teachers here .

Meridian teachers and staff are compensated competitively for their time and have opportunities to earn additional income through leadership opportunities at the school level, offering extracurricular clubs and sports for students, and facilitating tutoring programs. Salary is based on Meridian's teacher salary scale and is determined by years of experience and level of education.
