Job Description

The Role

We are seeking an experienced On‑Site Lead A&P Mechanic to lead aircraft maintenance operations for a Gulfstream GV supporting a mission‑critical, government aviation program at Joint Base Andrews. This role combines hands‑on aircraft maintenance with technical leadership, regulatory accountability, and vendor oversight in a high‑standards flight‑line environment.

The On‑Site Lead serves as the primary point of accountability for aircraft maintenance execution, inspection integrity, tooling control, inventory accuracy, and regulatory compliance in accordance with FAA regulations, Army Regulation 95‑20, and program requirements. This position works independently while coordinating closely with the Maintenance Manager (MM), Program Manager (PM), technicians, vendors, and government representatives to sustain high aircraft availability year‑round.

The Mission

Aircraft Maintenance & Mission Readiness

  • Ensure the aircraft remains fully mission‑ready by safely performing and overseeing launch, recovery, pre‑flight, post‑flight, servicing, towing, and ground handling operations.
  • Diagnose, adjust, repair, or overhaul aircraft engines and systems, including hydraulic, pneumatic, avionics, and electrical components.
  • Utilize OEM manuals, IPCs, equipment lists, serial‑number effectivity, and modification status to troubleshoot discrepancies on‑ground and minimize off‑site maintenance events.
  • Serve as Maintenance Lead under Army Regulation 95‑20, fulfilling all associated responsibilities.

Technical Leadership & Inspection Authority

  • Lead and supervise on‑site mechanics while coordinating vendor technicians performing specialized inspections, repairs, or logistical support.
  • Serve as an inspector whenever more than one technician is assigned, ensuring all work is validated, documented, and tool‑secure prior to return‑to‑service.
  • Assist in the development and enforcement of quality assurance and on‑the‑job training procedures for assigned technicians.
  • Foster a culture of safety, accountability, procedural compliance, and technical excellence.

Compliance, Documentation & Reporting

  • Ensure strict compliance with FAA regulations, Army Regulation 95‑20, DCMA guidance (as applicable), and program Ground Operating Procedures (GOP).
  • Maintain complete, accurate, and audit‑ready maintenance documentation, including CMP cards, logbooks, MELs, NEFs, intermittent discrepancies, and corrective action records.
  • Maintain an accurate turnover log, tracking all open MEL/NEF items, material status, troubleshooting activity, and recurring discrepancies.
  • Prepare and submit daily maintenance status reports and required documentation to the Maintenance Manager.

Inventory, Tooling & Logistics Oversight

  • Oversee accurate procurement of aircraft parts and materials; verify components are applicable and correct prior to installation.
  • Utilize NetSuite to create requisitions for parts, tools, and consumables supporting scheduled and unscheduled maintenance.
  • Perform monthly reconciliation of spare parts inventories; report inventory status to the Maintenance Manager.
  • Receive spares, tooling, GSE, and consumables through TCMAX, ensuring proper logging, storage, inspection, and calibration tracking.
  • Conduct monthly tooling inventories and GSE inspections using TCMAX.
  • Track tooling and GSE calibration requirements and ensure compliance with manufacturer and program standards.
  • Coordinate core returns and TMDE returns with Program Logistics, ensuring accurate and complete paperwork.

Safety & Program Execution

  • Proactively support and engage with the Safety Management System (SMS).
  • Contribute directly to successful program execution by supporting customer needs, maintaining aircraft availability targets, and resolving maintenance and logistical challenges efficiently.
  • Act as the on‑site technical authority and point of coordination with government representatives regarding maintenance operations and local resource utilization.
Supervisory Responsibility
This position provides direct on‑site leadership to assigned mechanics and coordinates vendor personnel supporting the aircraft.

Work Environment
This role operates in a controlled, professional flight‑line environment at Joint Base Andrews, supporting a high‑visibility government aviation program. The position involves hands‑on aircraft maintenance, leadership presence on the flight line, and exposure to operational conditions consistent with active aviation missions.

Required Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Active FAA Airframe & Powerplant (A&P) Certificate
  • 3–5 years of aircraft maintenance experience, with increasing responsibility
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance
  • Valid U.S. driver’s license
  • Current U.S. passport
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and work in a physically demanding flight‑line environment
  • Willingness to work extended hours or adjusted schedules as required to support mission needs
Preferred Qualifications
  • Avionics and/or electrical systems experience
  • Inspection Authorization (IA)
  • Active Secret security clearance
  • Prior experience with Army Regulation 95‑20 and/or DCMA Instruction 8210‑1
  • Experience leading technicians or serving in a maintenance lead role
  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Aviation Maintenance or a related field
  • Aircraft‑specific certifications (GV or similar business jet platforms)
